This was a great read! I really liked The Blood Detective, the first in this series by Dan Waddell on whose book, Who Do You Think You Are? Discovering the Heroes and Villains in Your Family, the BBC TV series was based. Combining detective Grant Foster with genealogist Nigel Barnes in such tight, fast paced, brilliantly plotted British crime novels really works, making for some of the most original and interesting reading in crime fiction today. I was meant to be reading something else but it became a tad predictable, so I picked this one up and found it just read itself while I loved every minute of it. I won't tell you a great deal about the plot lest I spoil it for you, but next time you feel like some great crime writing try these, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I am very keen to read Dan Waddell’s The Blood Detective after reading this his second book with Genealogist, Nigel Barnes at its core. The titles are stand alone so don’t have to be read sequentially. This has been brilliantly plotted with an unusual theme that holds your interest to the last page. Both Annette and Colleen have given this great reviews and I concur; if you enjoy crime this is a must.

Katie Drake is murdered in her home and her fourteen year old daughter, Naomi, is missing. With no obvious motive, DCI Grant Foster looks into the past of Katie only to find she doesn’t have one. Enter genealogist Nigel Barnes, who begins to uncover century old dark secrets while someone in the present seeks vengeance. A great suspenseful mystery.

Another great read by Dan Waddell. A woman's throat is cut, her daughter goes missing, and DCI Grant Foster, recently returned from a period of convalescence, is back on the job. With the help of Nigel Barnes, the genealogist who helped him in The Blood Detective, our protagonist uncovers the dark roots of family trees, from England, all the way to America, with its strange sects. It is well written with great characters; I am hoping that Waddell will keep going with this series!
