Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on 28 September 1330. Nearly seven hundred years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty and Nicholas Flamel lives. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.
This is the first book in the series “The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel”. This book is entitled The Alchemyst; Sophie and Josh are twins who have a big secret in their past that they don’t yet know about. Nicholas Flamel was born on 28th of September 1330 and records show that he died in 1418 in Paris. The three meet in unlikely circumstances in a bookshop in modern-day San Francisco, and a café across the road. Nicholas and his wife Perenelle have been keepers of the book of Abraham the Mage for more than six hundred years and have been using this book to continuously make themselves the “Elixir of life”, which has given them eternal youth. This is all about to change as Dr John Dee is right on the Flamel’s trail and this time they won’t escape him. Dr Dee gains hold of the book and Perenelle is captured and imprisoned on Alcatraz. But what Dr Dee doesn’t know is that he is missing the “Final Summoning”, the crucial last two pages, which Josh ripped out of the book. Sophie and Josh have two extremely powerful and rare auras that unbeknownst to them may eventually save or destroy the world. Sophie’s powers are awakened by the influential Elder, Hekate, but her realm is destroyed by the evil Dr John Dee with one of the swords of power, Excalibur. In this book you will discover that each and every myth or legend contains a grain of truth. The story travels through many different parts of our world, the adjoining worlds (Shadowrealms) and history. This is a great book for all ages to read, as my father and I both enjoyed it thoroughly. There are rumours that the book is being turned into a film – we can’t wait!
